About the Project

The East Stand extension brings the first significant redevelopment of Twickenham Stadium since the South Stand was completed in 2008, and provides over 11,000 sqm of hospitality and debenture space for 6,800 premium ticket holders. 

Although the overall stadium capacity remains at 82,000, the new facilities provide a major extension of the current hospitality and conferencing facilities. 

Each level is distinctive in its design with rugby themes subtly embedded, celebrating and bringing to life the unique aspects of the home of England Rugby. 

De-Group Contracting carried out the new underground drainage to the former St Georges suite at Ground level including the formation of a new RC ground floor slab and 1st Floor mezzanine level. 

Upper levels were cut and carved to suit 4 new lift installations and made good with structural trimming steel, metal deck and concrete. In other areas De-Group Contracting carried out trench works, drainage with attenuation tanks and RC bases for anew fire sprinkler system, along the formation of new vomitory entrances into the existing bowl.

Project challenges included the programming and coordination of deliveries and waste away around major sporting and music events held within the grounds, this in turn demanded quick completion and handover ensuring safety for large crowds for various events. 

We have had to accommodate incumbent contractors, including in house maintenance and turf management teams along with catering and retail contractors within close proximity to our areas of works meant ever changing set down and loading/unloading areas. 

A major challenge was the installation of large 12m steel beam into a very confined space at short notice due to some unforeseen important changes to the design within the mezzanine slab area. This was all carried within the original programme period allocated for the works including the design, manufacture and installation of the beam.
